At
Universal-Macomb Ambulance, we've taken an entirely new approach to the
way we handle transporting high acuity patients. We have a staff
of highly qualified personnel who have been trained through the
nationally recognized
Critical Care
Transport Program developed by the
University of Maryland-Baltimore County. This enhanced training
enables our CCT Medics to use various monitoring devices not taught in
the U.S. D.O.T. national paramedic curriculum.
This specialized training, in conjunction with state
of the art equipment on board all CCT vehicles, enables our staff to
better respond to complications that may arise during the transfer of
high acuity patients.
Our CCT team serves a variety of patient populations,
including but not limited to: Acute Myocardial Infarctions, High-Risk OB
transports, Pediatric, Neo-natal and Trauma patients who are in need of
rapid and safe transportation services to tertiary care facilities.
In addition to continuing education required by UMBC
for graduates of the CCEMT-P program, Universal CCT medics go through
semi-annual in service training on equipment and medications typically
found in the ICU. CCT Medics are re-familiarized with all the equipment
that is not typical of a regular ACLS ambulance. Other areas of
education involve those components not typically taught to paramedics.
Such as: chest tube monitoring, blood administration, lab-data analysis,
radiological interpretation and expanded pharmacology.
More than a typical ALS/A.C.L.S.
ambulance:
Information for Health Care Workers / Hospitals
- 3 CCT Units / 2 of which are available 24 hours a
day.
- Available within 30 minutes to any facility we
routinely service.
- At least (1) UMBC trained Critical Care Medic
accompanies each and every patient.
- All 30 Universal CCT Medics are licensed Michigan
Paramedics and maintain certifications in:
P.H.T.L.S. or B.T.L.S.,
P.A.L.S. and A.C.L.S.

-
Specialty care transport crew
composition is determined by the transferring physician. Our
dispatch center can assist in determining the proper mode of
transport for a patient (ALS or CCT) based on the medications
infusing and/or equipment required to accompany the patient (chest
tube, invasive lines).
-
Long distance transfers (Cleveland,
Chicago, Milwaukee) are available for patient's unable to transfer
via air ambulance. We have transferred patients to the
Cleveland Clinic, St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee, and more
locally; the University of Michigan.

- Invasive
Line Monitoring
-
Universal SCT ambulances are equipped
with
Protocol Propaq Encore EL206 monitors,
Medtronic Life Pack 12, and
Zoll CCT-M
Series monitoring equipment.
All (3) devices feature invasive line monitoring of (2)
lines simultaneously. CCT Medics are
trained and have monitored, CVP, PA, and Arterial
lines. Both monitors also perform basic 5 lead ECG
monitoring, as well as Sp02 and EtCO2 monitoring.
- Transducers Universal can interface
with:
-
- Abbott Transpac II
- Abbott Transpac IV
- Baxter TruWave
-
- Advanced
Pharmacology
- Our staff is
trained in the use of multiple medications commonly found in
the Critical Care environment. Thrombolytics, Vasopressors,
Sedatives, Paralytics, and Antibiotics are just a few of the
various class of medications our CCT Medics receive training
in.
-
- State of the
Art Mechanical Ventilation
- The LTV 1000
and LTV 1200
allows ventilation to be tailored to each individual
patient's needs with available pressure control, pressure
support, volume control, adjustable flow triggering, NPPV
and apnea back-up mode. The LTV 1000/1200 is diagnostic ready
with Auto Peep and Static Compliance features. The unit
features extensive patient monitoring capabilities and a
comprehensive alarms package for optimum patient care.
-
-
Alternate Power Source
- CCT ambulances are
equipped with either a high capacity inverter or a gas
generator. Thus, A/C power is always available within the
patient care compartment. Universal CCT units are prepared
to transport NICU isolates, IABP and LVAD devices. CCT Medics receive (8)
hours of IABP training during their CCEMT-P training on
Datascope Balloon Pumps.
IV Infusion Pumps
- CCT units are
equipped with (3) MTP IV Infusion pumps. Used exclusively in
the military these pumps are certified by the FDA for use in
ground ambulances. To date, these are the only IV pumps on
the market approved for use in ground transport vehicles.
